Jack Charbonneau 2020: Political Revolution

It was just my initial idea… I didn’t know Bernie had that phrase actually IN his campaign title. I thought it was just his way of expressing what he was trying to do.

I’ve always anticipated that it might be necessary to change it someday if Senator Sanders requested, but so far it has not come up. In a recent interview, he actually said that his organization really isn’t so much a “revolution” as it is a “movement”…

 

Well, that’s a bit disappointing. Change doesn’t often come from Political Upsettedness.

 

Then again, how can an insider, a United States Senator, command a revolution? From within the Legislative Body that has given rise to the anger and frustration fueling calls for change. I’m reminded of the hijacking of the Tea Party movement in 2010. Any large, sustained, organized group that shows promise always seems to be infiltrated by institutional agendas, watered down by individuals who sympathize with incumbent legislators… and their DONORS.

Or, as was the case with the Occupy Wall St. movement… pass a few laws and all of a sudden, Out of SIGHT is out of MIND. ‘Can’t have all these protesters out on the streets… we’ve got ELECTIONS to FUND!’

 

I am amazed at the depth of the depravity the President expresses… in his Tweets, in his dismissal of Constitutional Norms, in his refusal to follow the Rule of Law… this cannot become the New Normal for a President. It has to change. I have NO DOUBT, it WILL change.

Cut through ALL of the rhetoric and political posturing, and get to the CORE of it… no American wants to see our Commander-in-Chief become known to the rest of the world as just a Carnival Barker, taking anyone who will listen for a RIDE.

How do we maintain PEACE with someone like THAT? How do we sustain PROSPERITY for ourselves, and foster other nations who seek the same for themselves, with a transactional leader like THIS?

Institutional, transactional legislators… did you see it?! When the call came, like good little soldiers they all fell in line. Just like the Republicans have done. The stage has now been set for an Electoral Showdown between two entrenched and established Political Titans. BILLIONS will be spent to determine a winner… and THEN the people will pick from whomever is left. Who will win…?

 

Party Politics, in a LANDSLIDE. And who will lead them… the best FUNDRAISER.

 

Revolution is born out of NEED. A hunger. Fueled by a steady course of events, witnessed by generations of individuals who have seen the decay.

Who have felt the pain. Who have LIVED it… not LEGISLATED it.

What should our government LOOK like?

What do we want our government to BE?

It should be representative of the PEOPLE from whom it receives its authority to govern. Right now, legislators do just that… Government by the DONOR. Not bad work if you can get it.

 

TWICE now, in 20 years, we have witnessed a breakdown in our Election System. We stand poised on the verge of a THIRD. This Revolution is not one led by a disgruntled old man with a chip on his shoulder, it is ELEVATED in status because of the ideals at its core. Ideals that empower THE PEOPLE, by ensuring EVERY CITIZEN is included and EVERY VOICE is heard.

 

More Participation = Better Governance

 

The current struggle between the GOP and the Democratic Party reminds me of a fight between siblings, fought with an anger and passion reserved only for FAMILY. Blinded by ego, they tear into each other screaming- “It’s MINE!”, “No, it’s MINE!”

Yes, you’re BOTH right… It’s OURS. It’s for ALL of us.

Why are you fighting? It’s for all of us to SHARE.

 

“… with Liberty and Justice for ALL.”

 

It doesn’t get much clearer than THAT! That is the pledge that I have made, and that is the cause for which I fight. When you defend the Rights of others, you defend those Rights for yourself.

Our Democracy is secure when every citizen is guaranteed access to the ballot. We ensure it is so when all candidates for office are funded by THE TAX PAYERS and not special interests.

 

This Revolution started when it was declared that ALL Mankind is created EQUAL. We must HONOR those brave men by reaffirming our commitment to their ideals, by amending the parts they got WRONG… as they so wisely knew they would.

 

ONE CITIZEN= ONE VOTE

 

We must End the Electoral College.

I shut out the shooting at MSDHS. On valentines Day, I intentionally shut it out. I did not watch Morning joe. I did not watch Rachel that night. I could not. I knew it was gonna be bad, and I did not want to face it.

So I didn’t. For two whole days. All while I was deciding if I could or should run for President. At that time, I had decided to wait until after I met with my tax advisor, to answer some basic questions. So I…

So I couldn’t NOT watch news programs. As a person learning about a field as expansive as Presidential Candidate, its unavoidable. And it is the Commander in Chief’s place to direct and advise, and act when called upon. So I drove home after dropping the boys off at school and watched. And cried. And cried some more. And saw something new. MOTIVATION. The ‘spark’. The flighting of Muse that poet and musician alike chase to no end.

Never Again.

And to that flighting chase, their cause, too, might come to no avail, but for the aid of wise counsel, who had seen these times before. A Senator spoke on the morning of February 17 that sparked a decision in my mind. Because that Senator enunciated the phrase I had been waiting to hear. One that I had not heard in such a long time. I had realized it was not discarded… it was subverted.

The Hastert Rule

And watching the times unfolding in every sphere, in every corner of our society, I could not help but question if it was mere coincidence? That the issues we deal with today are being caused by a concept conceived by a ‘serial child molester’? As per Dennis Hastert’s judge, when sentencing the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, of the United States of America to prison….

So by the end of the day, I composed what would be the script for my first campaign video-

That was the “kick in the ass”. The point where I made the connection. I was motivated by the actions of a bunch of kids with no voice in our government, screaming to be heard by our government, and being told NO. And if those kids are to be successful, as any parent should want for their kids…. I knew they would need to know this. Because it seems no one knows this.

I had not realized how intertwined my campaign is with the students of MSD until this evening. They had their memorials just a couple days ago, and I didn’t even… It was not intentional. It seems as though my mind brushed it aside. At this moment I feel sickened by it. But, I realize now. I will remember now, in the future.

During this time, I have come to see the connection between all of these issues. The idea that a small percentage, of the majority, of the members of the House can dictate what legislation will or will NOT be introduced in the House? A group of men, who are all of the same party, numbers smaller than the entirety of the group calling for action?

“Only if it pleases the King’s Men.”

And it is the thread that runs through ALL of our ills. Discrimination, sexual harassment, gun safety laws, civil forfeiture, mandatory minimums, sexual identity, banking practices, mortgage lending, student loans, retirement funds, nursing care, stock market stability with our retirement funds, international cooperation, Intercontinental Ballistic Missile treaties, contracts with friend and foe alike… We are all being led by a duplicitous system, where control lies in the hands of people who hold others down.

And these kids stood up and said “NEVER AGAIN”

And I agree. End The Hastert Rule now.

I am of course referring to the FEC guidelines for political contributions, specifically the section regarding in kind contributions of services, where the last line reads- “Of course, when an individual personally volunteers legal or accounting services to a committee, the above restrictions do not apply.” https://transition.fec.gov/pages/brochures/citizens.shtml

Oh… I’m supposed to say “I’m Jack Charbonneau, and I approved this message.” Because this is my Official website for my political campaign-

Yup. I got a number from the IRS today. I got my FEC Candidate number the other day as well… sigh. They gave me a doozey of a number. P00007666. Out of all the randomness and chaos in the universe, THAT’S the number I get!? But it’s just a number. It’s like the thirteenth floor of a building, or the impulse to knock on wood or toss salt over your shoulder. Or looking at the digital clock everyday at 5:55 or 11:11.

I’ve always found numerical oddities like this interesting. This particular number is seen as quite powerful, to some. Growing up as a Southern Baptist in my teens, I have read the stories and heard the Word about who this number is for. Now, even though I am an Atheist, (or as my Aunt Marty would say, He’s walking his ‘path’) I still hold tight to the lessons gained from that book. That the light will always conquer darkness. And I stand on the side of the light. Anyway… I like the power of the seven that comes before it!

So this is my first Official Campaign posting. And I should say, to everyone, I only want to ask ONE question:

“Can you name ONE issue that you care deeply about, that could be solved if we eliminated the corruption of our current campaign finance system?”

I can name MORE than one!

If that answer is yes, then consider another question:

“Would you sign a petition to allow an INDEPENDENT candidate, funded only by INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTIONS, on to the ballot for President in the 2020 election?”

I know… It is a HUGE ask. No… I get it. I was mad at Ralph Nader for TWO YEARS. No joke! And I had a friend who voted for Ross Perot… as a write-in in 2000. I understand what this means. But, if you consider the choices that were on the ballot in 2016, and consider the possible choices coming in 2020…

I cannot think of a single person who could change all of this for the better. No political figure could unite us. They are too polarizing. And their record is tainted by the corruption as well. No celebrity could do it. They are too entangled in their financial web to run. To many, public service could cost them millions in income. No corporate titan like Bill gates or Mark Zuckerberg… for obvious reasons.

…and that brings up another point.

We stand at the precipice of a pivotal moment in our country. We are about to see the conclusion to an investigation into an attack on our country by a foreign adversary. Many wealthy countries, organizations, individuals, good and bad actors from all corners of the globe, are watching and waiting. When decisions are made and legislation is passed, we must act in the light of Full Disclosure. The American People need to know as much as possible as to the true nature of the events of this attack. With OPENESS and OVERSIGHT being supreme, only Full Disclosure will ensure we make the best decisions, as a governing body AND as individuals. Everyone benefits with MORE KNOWLEDGE.

So who do YOU want making the calls with this classified information? It is a heavy time in our country. Non disclosure agreements, backroom handshakes, smiles and cigars, then a plea to the voters for support to fight a fictitious “enemy within”. Partisan politics played out with classified intel, partisan conclusions presenting selected facts, and all at the cost of the MEN AND WOMEN, dedicating decades of their lives to our system of Justice… like a criminal would do.

The criminal enterprise that has grown along side our partisan political structure has cast a shadow upon Our Government. The taint of political contributions from the highest bidder has led to laws that benefit the donors. The need for Congressional candidates to raise money for re-election takes time away from legislating. HOURS every day, calling wealthy donors ‘back home’, asking for their support. And all of that support comes with an implied price tag.

When We choose to UNITE behind a candidate Of the People, one who lives the issues and ills of our society daily… Someone who truly represents the ideals, not ideas, of our Nation. A candidate that understands the struggles a working class family faces, because I am part of a working class family. And I believe that those values, the ones I have been taught and the ones I have learned, are shared by the majority of the electorate. And until We see someone like myself, in The White House, we will remain divided.

If we can see past the division of our daily left/right battles and realize it doesn’t HAVE TO BE ONE OR THE OTHER. Why MUST it be ONE or THE OTHER? When we can have unity and consensus.

When we work together in good faith, We can put a MAN ON THE MOON!

Please consider OPEN and HONEST debate on my idea of creating a ONE CITIZEN=ONE VOTE tax payer funded Federal Election System. By achieving only this, we open the door to solving ALL issues that directly effect voters. The States have representation. The districts have representation. The President transcends regional politics and is a representative of ALL the People of Our country. The President should be decided DIRECTLY by the People.

We must End The Electoral College.
