A Day of Remembrance

Today I had to teach my kids that our nation’s history books are created by a panel of people nominated by ELECTED OFFICIALS, who are dependent upon FUNDRAISING. That’s the ONLY REASON I could come up with… to explain WHY I was not told the story of June 19, 1865. To explain why I had never heard the phrase Juneteenth.

Today the House Judiciary took the FIRST STEPS in a process to understand what we need to do, as a NATION, to heal the wounds cause by the GOVERNMENT SANCTIONED practice of SLAVERY. An institution that has caused GENERATIONAL DAMAGE to Americans of African Descent, and has lessoned the HONOR of our Constitution.

HR 40 would establish a Presidential Commission to investigate what must be done to make amends for injustices enabled by OUR Rule of Law. To HEAL, we must first CLEAN THE WOUND. We must find the answers so we can move FORWARD TOGETHER, and solve the injustices we continue to see LIVESTREAMED by on-lookers and by-standers.

They do these things to CITIZENS of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! TODAY… black people. TOMORROW…

STAND UP and SPEAK OUT! When you STAND UP and defend the rights of others, you defend those rights for YOURSELF. The ONLY WAY to ensure your rights is to ensure them FOR US ALL.

I believe the practice of slavery was horrifying, as do the MAJORITY of Americans. Let us find the path to UNDERSTANDING. To ACKNOWLEDGE the sins of our PAST, RESTORE JUSTICE in the hearts and minds of ALL CITIZENS, and TEACH OUR CHILDREN why we remember and WHY we must NEVER FORGET.

To establish our intention and demonstrate our RESOLVE, I believe we should establish Juneteenth as a Paid Federal Holiday, and dedicate it as a day of remembrance and a celebration of the expansion of Liberty.

… I don’t need the conclusions of a commission to determine THAT.
